We all value our privacy, but the digital world has changed our definition of privacy. The response to this new mentality of persistent connectivity has ranged from the open source movement to the growth of online anonymous services. Many of these have been created to provide services the likes of anonymous browsing and anonymous social networks. One of these anonymous services was built entirely on good intentions. Whisper is an anonymous social network that aims to provide a supportive environment for people to share their innermost feelings.

Whisper’s anonymous nature along with its supportive community intrigued us, motivating us to investigate this social support platform to understand what kinds of people are using it and what’s resonating with them. We found the platform’s user base skews female, with 2.6 times more women using the service than men, and that gender impacts the content consumed. Read on for our full data-driven social findings.
